Gifted and Talented

Gifted and Talented Program
As defined by the Texas State Plan and Guidelines for the Education of the Gifted/Talented student, a gifted/talented student is a child or youth who performs at or shows the potential for performing at a remarkably high level of accomplishment when compared to others of the same age, experience, or environment and who:

  • exhibits high performance capability in an intellectual, creative, or artistic area;
  • possesses an unusual capacity for leadership; or
  • excels in a specific academic field. (Texas Education Code §29.121).

The Legacy Preparatory Gifted and Talented program is dedicated to identifying gifted and talented students, and is designed to meet the instructional needs of all students through the differentiation of instruction in the core academic subjects through lesson and project extensions appropriate for students’ abilities, interests, and skills. Legacy Preparatory gifted and talented students will receive services through a cluster model design within their general educational classroom setting. Such a model affords GT students the opportunity to complete curricular tasks that include greater depth, complexity, and pacing while working independently, with other GT identified students, as well as with general population students. Quality instruction is received from core content teachers who have received the appropriate initial 30 hour mandated training by the state of Texas along with a continued 6 hour yearly update.
